Withypool to be precise. After two weeks in Cornwall I feel like I’m crossing counties at a rate of knots.

I had a disturbed night’s sleep so felt a bit groggy setting off this morning. Today was again going to be road walking. The roads around here are very quiet. In the first three miles the only traffic I met was three quad bikes. The countryside continued to be rolling, sometimes wooded, and very green. There are lots of eggs for sale, and every crossroads has a name and is marked by a signpost.

The views were lovely but don’t photograph well, I even saw the sea again. I know, I keep saying it’s the last view but I think it really was today. This part of Devon (or maybe I’m already in Somerset, I’m not quite sure) seems to be composed of isolated farms rather than many villages.

By lunchtime I had reached Exmoor and realised I would be too early to check in to the pub I was staying at. So, I took it easy, had a leisurely lunch and ambled down, now on the more major B road (five minutes could pass without a car). I stopped and chatted to a lady walking her dogs, and to a couple of cyclists who were drawing breath after cycling up from Withypool.

I am staying at the Royal Oak where my “en suite” room has a bathroom across the landing…. mind you, it is a pretty spacious bathroom with a bath. I’m looking forward to dinner as I failed to have a cream tea. I just didn’t feel like it but did manage an ice cream. Still, I have had a bath, redressed (actually just put another plaster on) my blisters, and am lying on my bed about to investigate the Sky TV. I have plotted tomorrow’s route, which isn’t all on the road, and will be going for dinner soon.
You are don’t so well and every time I look at you on the map I can’t believe how far you have gone! All self powered is quite remarkable! Happy Friday x
