Today I stayed in bed watching Tom Daley winning gold at the Olympics as breakfast wasn’t until 8.30. In fact, it wasn’t until a bit later than that as my very sociable landlady, Brenda, felt that all her guests should be together before she gave them breakfast.

I had a few tasks to do today, including getting my washing done at the launderette. Happily, as I was on my way with my bag of washing, I bumped into Brenda, who has very strict ideas about towels being washed daily. This results in space for a not-quite-half load of washing. I didn’t demur but handed over my bag.

I spent the rest of the morning at the Dales Countryside Museum, which was really quite interesting. Bronze Age axes to Viking rings to rag-rug making with a bit of lead-mining thrown in.

Blog writing was my next task. A couple of nights at campsites with little signal and less power (what do they think people do?) had resulted in a backlog. I have to admit, it can be difficult to remember what happened on which day. I try to use the photographs to remind me and I also jot down some notes if I know I won’t be able to write up on the day. Sometimes I forget things. On Day 68 I had my first ever wild raspberries and I forgot to mention it.
The task I failed at today was taking photos so there aren’t very many. This afternoon I met Graham who is walking with me for the next few days. He had brought some maps etc from home for me. We talked about the route, food, and baggage transfer-tomorrow is a long day – before having dinner (at the White Hart again, their rhubarb pudding was even better than yesterday as it featured rhubarb brûlée and custard as well as rhubarb ice cream and a mini-crumble).
Brenda is making me an early breakfast tomorrow before I head off to meet Graham and we start our 16 mile walk to the Tan Hill Inn where we are camping.
I vaguely remember seeing those sheep on top of the post box in Hawes last summer. Or maybe it’s a new lot. Anyway, great fun!
